Thompson Child & Family Focus Welcomes A Child’s Place
as the Two Merge to Provide Needed Services to 28 CMS Schools

We are proud to share with you that as of today, A Child’s Place (ACP) has merged with Thompson Child & Family Focus (Thompson), in an effort to best serve the needs of students and families experiencing homelessness in our community.

For 30 years, A Child’s Place has carried forth a mission to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education.  Our work is with families most disproportionately affected by both segregation and generational poverty, negatively impacting a child’s education, emotions, and physical being as a result. This reality faces over 4,000 children each year.

Nearly 2,000 students and families from dozens of schools across Charlotte have been positively impacted by our services annually.  As A Child’s Place moves toward the next 30 years, it is imperative that we make the most of opportunities to build a community where even the most vulnerable children and families can achieve their dreams.

In alignment with Thompson’s focus on family stability, early childhood, and mental health services for vulnerable populations, A Child’s Place will continue to amplify services and maximize impact.  Instead of remaining a standalone nonprofit organization – we will become an invaluable addition to the full continuum of programming that Thompson offers as Charlotte’s leading human services organization. Through their resources and service continuum, coupled with the unique expertise at A Child’s Place, together – we grow the impact, transformation, and futures of hundreds – if not thousands more kids right here in our backyard.

We want to take this moment and thank you, a deeply valued supporter of A Child’s Place, for your commitment to our work and to celebrate with you as A Child’s Place takes this next step forward.
